May Planting 2005

We have been lucky enough to participate in the 2004 and 2005 tree planting and habitat restoration programmes in the Capertee.

With a touch of luck this dreaming valley will thrive and be precious for a long time to come.....

" Good luck little one ! "

Everyone is shown how to make a successful planting and old hands are happy to show young ones and new planters the way to do it.

... and people know how to make the most of the day.

Plantings involve many people of varying ages coming from diverse backgrounds travelling from near and far, rural and urban to do a hard days work

Some live or stay in local towns, others camp nearby and wake up to a chorus of birds !

Some plant in groups, some plant on their own. Everybody plants at their own pace.

Contours of trees will help prevent salinity, marginalisation and sustain biodiversity

Groups enjoy banter and making new aquaintances in the bush

The ground at some plantings is easy to dig and at others is rock with only a smattering of soil. This one was hard yakka !

At the beginning of the day the work seems vast, stretching out in front of us, layed out in lines ...

... the planters are many......

The vibe is good.

The day's work.

Ripped earth ready to receive a trees
